Contrary to public speculation, Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe was never in consideration for any brand ambassadorship deal with Sterling Bank—at least, not initially.
The unexpected development began when SterlingNG posted a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) about its #ZeroTransfer campaign. The tweet caught the attention of Uzor Arukwe, who casually liked and retweeted it without any apparent agenda beyond public support.
Sterling Bank noticed this interaction and acted swiftly. The bank sent a direct message to Uzor Arukwe, saying:
“Odogwu, pleeaase. Hehe, we just had to say that.
We saw your tweet about our #FreeTransferCharges and would like to extend an invitation to you. Please join us at our branch at Adeola Odeku as we’d like to welcome you to the Sterling fold and discuss why we’ve chosen to give back to Nigerians in this way.”
Uzor responded enthusiastically:
“Say no more! I will be there live and direct. I hope you people will have ogene dancers to welcome me?”
Sterling Bank replied:
“You don’t even have to ask, Odogwu! The whole squad is ready!”
That playful and spontaneous exchange led to a formal brand ambassadorship deal being sealed.

Adding a cultural flair, Uzor Arukwe requested the presence of Ogene dancers at the branch event—and Sterling happily obliged. What began as a simple retweet transformed into a celebratory partnership that blends digital savvy with local pride.
