“I Battled the Devil in My Mind”: Chidinma Ekile Opens Up on Mental Health Crisis

Popular Nigerian singer Chidinma Ekile has bravely opened up about a harrowing period in her life where severe depression led her to attempt suicide, attributing the impulse at the time to spiritual oppression.

In a candid and emotional interview, the former Project Fame West Africa winner disclosed that intense bullying, career pressures, and a failed business venture plunged her into a deep state of despair several years ago.

“The devil told me to take my life,” Ekile stated, describing the traumatic episode where she ingested a harmful substance. “I felt completely broken, overwhelmed by darkness and hopelessness. I believed ending my life was the only escape.”

Her revelation highlights the often-hidden mental health struggles faced by public figures across Africa. Ekile emphasized that support from family, friends, and professional intervention were crucial to her recovery.
