The member representing Nnewi North constituency at the Anambra state house of assembly Hon. Augustine Onyekachukwu Ikedoji says he will push for the creation of Nnewi North Urban Authority, which will serve as a driving force for development in the state
Ikedoji during his inaugural speech maintained that he will also fight for the common interests of everyone including those who did not vote nor support him
“We shall present bills to help improve our businesses, develop credible health system, and improve our institutions of learning, among others, so that Nnewi North Constituency will assume the perfect look as an urban area
“We will drive a more pragmatic skill acquisition setups, by ensuring that our youths are meaningfully engaged and even prepared to work both at home and abroad.
“To engender a purposeful legislative assignment, I have opened meaningful communication with Governor Chukwuma Soludo and will sustain a good relationship with him so that Nnewi North Constituency will be in his priority list.
“I shall also fight for the common interests of everyone including those who did not vote nor support me. Elections are over. We have to get down to work and we can do it together. Hence I implore everyone not to hesitate in reaching out to me about anything you think we can work together to achieve. For indeed, your votes for or against me, have dragged me into another level of fatherhood for the next four years and I am mentally prepared for the role.
“The truth is that “project Ikedoji” was supported across party divides, captains of industries both inside and outside Nnewi, professionals, friends and even our Church leaders; driven by Mr. Udedike Nwosu and his team.
“Thomas Hobbes in his leviathan said that three things will ever continue to divide the society namely: competition, dividend and glory. And this is typical of every business setting and Nnewi North Constituency is not an exception. However, we can decide to have a healthy competition but we can decide to obtain an honest and reasonable dividend.
“More importantly, we can emulate Christ by seeking to decrease so that Nnewi may increase, as against each of us seeking to be the self acclaimed leviathan or the most superior of us all.
“I wish to still thank all who stood by me during these trying times and wish to reassure you that you have elected a very strong character as your representative and you can actually sleep with your two eyes closed in the confidence that your interest is protected.
” Nnewi is known for commerce all over the world; especially, auto spare parts and its corollaries. The town is the second biggest business destination in Anambra State, but the most business friendly environment in Nigeria.
“This call for brotherhood and unity is best captured by Julius Nyerere’s concept of Ujamaa (brotherhood) which is the very essence of African Communalism. This may not be the first time we have to fix Nnewi, but we can make it the very epochal and long lasting, by each of us emptying ourselves for the common good.
” More than ever, the prayer of unity offered by Jesus Christ in John 17.21, praying for those the Father had given him to be one, is needed in Nnewi North Constituency as we transit from a trial phase towards a more united and prosperous Nnewi North Constituency.
