Former US President Donald Trump has reacted to what appeared to be a second assassination attempt on his life on Sunday.
The Sunday’s incident comes less than two months after he was hit by a bullet in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July.
ANN reported that an official statement from Trump’s campaign team said gunshots were heard near the former president’s vicinity at Palm Beach Golf Club, Florida.
“President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No additional details are available at this time,” a Spokesperson for Trump’s campaign, Steven Cheung, said in a short statement.
In his reaction to the incident, Trump issued statement saying he is well and safe.
He also vowed never to surrender, which appears to be a message directed at his detractors ahead of the US presidential election in November which he is contesting.
“There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumours start spiralling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL! Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER! I will always love you for supporting me,” Trump said.
Trump, Republican Party candidate at the November polls, faces incumbent US vice president Kamala Harris of the Democratic party.
Recall that in July, a 20-year-old, Matthew Crooks, from Pennsylvania, shot a bullet during a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania, which the former president narrowly escaped.
Trump’s ear was grazed by the bullet during the incident, which tragically led to the death of one rally attendee, Corey Comperatore, and injuries to two others.
Fortunately, Secret Service agents subdued the shooter after he opened fire at the former president.
