Ibas Calls on Rivers Political Leaders to Sheathe Swords, Urges Peaceful Campaigning

Former Governor and prominent political figure Sir Celestine Ketek-Ibas has appealed to political actors in Rivers State to lay aside hostilities and engage in peaceful dialogue ahead of upcoming elections.

Ibas made the appeal during a public event in Port Harcourt, where he warned that the current atmosphere of political tension threatens the safety and unity of the state. He emphasized that political competition should never boil over into violence.

He urged politicians, party supporters, and youth groups to refrain from inflammatory rhetoric and to foster a political environment built on respect and civility. “We must campaign on issues, not on incitement,” he said.

While acknowledging the zeal of political activism, Ibas warned that unchecked aggression and divisive speech could lead to unrest. He called on security agencies to ensure order, emphasizing that the state must remain peaceful for elections to be credible.
