The Transition Committee Chairman for Idemili North LGA, Chief Chuksbrown Igboanua, has inaugurated Traffic Controllers for Obosi inland and urban town into office so as to ease traffic congestion in the area.
While interacting with them in his office at the Idemili North LGA Headquarters at Ogidi, Chief Igboanua gave them the admonition not to use violence when they are carrying out their duties even if they are sorely provoked.
The council boss said that the fact that their duties are backed by a government edict should not embolden them to engage in such anti-social and criminal act as extortion of money from commercial bus drivers.
He warned them not to keep impounded vehicles beyond their office hours while harping on the need for them to use their mobile phones to capture drivers, who have violated traffic rules.
Chief Igboanua, also, advised them to avoid getting into litigation as it would tarnish their reputation and distract them from performing their duties.
He gave the directive that each unit should have a work force of ten men in order to ensure that the traffic workers are not overpowered by miscreants and thugs.
In his response, the leader of the traffic controllers, Hon. Kene Adieme, promised that they would go about their duties in a gentlemanly and civil manner.
