Idemili South Council Boss Visits Borrow Pits In Oba, Orderes For Closure, Sealing Of Site

The Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South LGA of Anambra State, Hon Amaka Obi alongside some Local Government officials and Councilors have visited borrow pits in Oba community.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that the unscheduled visit became necessary after the State Government through the office of Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Hon Ifeanyi Okoma issued a directive to seal all illegal borrow pits in the state.

The visit to the site was also in response to a report by the Community President General of Oba, Engr Uzochukwu Ejiofor that caught the attention of the council chairman, who has zero tolerance for hazard in the communities.

While touring the borrow pits, Obi observed that the operators who have engaged in excavating of the soil surface, equally hunt for other textures of soil in the said pit, thereby digging deeply into the soil surface which would eventually lead to possible landslide and the act is perceived to have been intentionally done to generate money for their benefactors at the expense of tax payer’s money which is use to fix some of the erosion sites in the State.

Speaking further, the council boss charged the operators to leave the site and ordered for the closure/sealing of the site pointing out that the purpose of any responsible and responsive government is to ensure that its citizens enjoy good life and live in prosperity.

Speaking shortly during the visit, the President General of Oba, Engr Uzochukwu Ejiofor and the Community Youth Leader, Amb Ebuka Ochudo lamented about the excavation process noting that some houses around the area are already prone to danger and also assured that they will put strong measures to ensure that the operators never return to the site.
