Idemili South Mayor Clears Longstanding Refuse Dump At Eke Nnokwa Market

The Mayor of Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Oluchukwu John Ilogbenu, has restored hope to traders and residents following the evacuation of a longstanding refuse dump at Eke Nnokwa Market.

Speaking during the exercise, Ilogbenu said the refuse dump had occupied valuable commercial space for years, posed a threat to public health and disrupted business activities, forcing some traders to close their shops because of the unhealthy environment.

He reaffirmed his administration’s determination to address longstanding environmental challenges and deliver visible, people-oriented results at the grassroots.

The local government Chairman noted that the intervention aligns with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s declaration of a state of emergency on the environment and reinforces the Idemili South administration’s Idemili South Rising vision.

Angel Network News (ANN) gathered that the refuse dump had become a major environmental concern, with many residents doubting whether the accumulated waste could ever be cleared.

However, the successful evacuation has brought relief and renewed optimism to traders and residents who had almost given up hope of reclaiming the affected area.

With the waste removed, traders are gradually returning to their shops and reclaiming their business spaces, while looking forward to a cleaner, healthier and more conducive environment for commercial activities.

The clearance of the refuse dump marks a significant step towards improved environmental sanitation, public health and grassroots development in the area.

For traders and residents of Eke Nnokwa Market, the exercise represents more than the removal of accumulated waste; it offers renewed hope for safer surroundings, improved commercial activities and a cleaner market environment.
