Idemili South Mayor Warns Parents Against Child Abuse

The local government Chairman of Idemili South, Dr. Mrs Amaka Obi has warned parents to desist from maltreating and engaging their children in illicit businesses.

Dr. Obi gave this warning as the world commemorates 2025 World Children’s Day, describing children as gift of God and they should always be given proper care and treatment.

The local government boss said that, she was always sad whenever she saw children of eight, nine, ten and twelve years old hawking in streets, when their parents ought to have sent them to school.

Dr. Obi noted that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has made it possible for every child to have access to quality education by declaring free education in all the public schools in the state, warning that children should not be seen selling any item by the road side when they were meant to be in school.

Speaking about the theme which centers on “My Day, My Rights, And For Every Child, Every Right”, Dr. Obi said, it emphasizes giving children a platform to voice their opinions and have their rights respected. She urged parents and guardians to celebrate their children, make them happy to feel special.
