Jordi Alba has retired from international football. The left-back recently captained Spain to Nations League success and has decided to hang up his boots.

The Inter Miami player told Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente of his decision several weeks ago. He believed his cycle with La Roja was over and will now be able to fully commit to his new club and MLS.

European winner

Alba, 34, played for his country 93 times and scored nine goals. During this time, he made the left-back position his own and was a key player for the side that won Euro 2012, where he also scored a goal in the final.

Spain debut

He made his debut on October 11, 2011 against Scotland in Alicante and also suffered some defeats, including World Cup eliminations in Brazil, Russia and Qatar. He also played in the 2013 Confederations Cup and the 2016 and 2020 European Championships.

Jordi Alba had a successful career representing Spain in international football. His retirement marks the end of an era for Spanish football.
