Iran Accuses US and Israel of War Crimes Over Nuclear Site Strikes

Iran has accused the United States and Israel of committing war crimes through 17 waves of airstrikes on its safeguarded nuclear facilities between 2025 and 2026, calling for a global “zero-tolerance policy” against attacks on peaceful atomic installations.

Tehran made the allegations during a special session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors on Friday.

In a formal statement, Iran’s delegation highlighted one particularly dangerous strike near the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, where a target was hit only 350 metres from the reactor containing thousands of kilograms of nuclear material.

“Iran noted that the IAEA Director General had previously warned that a direct strike on the Bushehr plant could trigger a ‘very high release of radioactivity to the environment’,” the delegation said.

Tehran described the attacks as acts of aggression that carry both state responsibility and individual criminal liability under international law. It cited UN Security Council Resolution 487 of 1981, which condemned Israel’s bombing of Iraq’s Osirak reactor

Iran also accused the United States of opposing previous IAEA resolutions aimed at protecting nuclear sites from military assault.

The accusations come amid heightened regional tensions, even as a US-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah was announced. Israeli forces have continued operations in southern Lebanon and issued new evacuation orders for several villages.

In a separate development, the US Central Command denied Iranian claims that its forces fired warning shots at American warships in the Gulf of Oman.
