Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to open a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centre in Ottawa, Canada, allowing Nigerians in North America to sit the test from 2027 without travelling home.
The board made the disclosure on its official social media platforms after Registrar Prof. Segun Aina visited the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa.
“The proposed centre will make it easier for Nigerians in the diaspora to sit for the UTME without travelling to Nigeria solely for the examination,” JAMB said.
It described the move as part of efforts towards “taking Nigerian tertiary education to the world” and said the facility would “strengthen the connection between Nigerians abroad and the Nigerian education system.”
The Ottawa centre is expected to serve eligible candidates across Canada and other parts of North America seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions. “For Nigerians in Canada, the UTME is coming closer to home,” the board added.
JAMB said it was working to establish the examination centre, which is scheduled to begin operations in 2027, and presented it as “a bigger opportunity to strengthen the connection between Nigerians in the diaspora and Nigerian tertiary education.”
