Victor Osimhen, a striker for Napoli, has established a new standard for vertical leaps in Serie A after doing so during Napoli’s impressive 3-0 victory against Spezia on Sunday.
The feat was accomplished by the Nigerian international at the Stadio Alberto Picco when he scored Napoli’s second goal of the day against the Little Eagles.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave Napoli the lead from the penalty spot after the first half ended scoreless, and Osimhen added the game’s second goal with an incredible effort in the 68th minute.
Osimhen, with that jump, according to Corriere dello Sport, climbed to a height of 2.58 metres – a mark typical of elite NBA stars.
By doing so, Osimhen broke the previous record for the Italian Serie A, which stood at 2.56 metres and was established by Cristiano Ronaldo for Juventus against Sampdoria in 2019.
Osimhen’s previous record, which he set against Torino at the Diego Maradona Stadium last season, was 2.52 metres. This is a new personal career high for him.
The world record of 2.62m set by Ugandan defender Bevis Mugabi in the Scottish Championship in January 2021, however, remains intact.
Osimhen currently leads the Serie A goal chart with 16 goals.
