JUST IN: Messi Wins FIFA Men’s Player Of The Year Award

Lionel Messi won FIFA’s “The Best” award for the third time on Monday as the Argentine pipped Manchester City’s Erling Haaland to the prize for best men’s player in 2023.

Leo Messi and Erling Haaland tied for first place with 48 points in The Best Men’s Player voting.

Messi won because of more ‘five-point’ scores from national team captains.

Haaland was favourite to win after scoring 52 times in his debut season with Manchester City, but Messi edged the vote after winning Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain and the Leagues Cup just months after joining Inter Miami.

Lionel Messi also was named in FIFA Pro XI and is the first and only player in football history to be part of the best World XI for 17 consecutive years.
