JUST IN: South-East Governors Demands Release Of Nnamdi Kanu, Set To Visit Tinubu

The South-East Governors Forum has decided to meet with President Bola Tinubu and engage with the Nigerian government to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

This decision was detailed in a communiqué issued after a six-hour meeting at the Enugu State Government House on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by all five governors from the region: Peter Mbah of Enugu, Alex Otti of Abia, Prof. Charles Soludo of Anambra, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, and Senator Hope Uzodimma of Imo. They all signed the five-point communiqué.

The forum also resolved to implement the report of the South East Security and Economic Summit held in Owerri on September 28, 2023, with specific actionable plans.

The resolution included the following key points:

– The Forum expressed condolences to the governments and people of Abia State, Ebonyi State, Imo State, the South East region, and the family of Chief Ogbonnaya Onu on the passing of His Excellency, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.

– The Forum welcomed a delegation led by former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, along with Chief Emeka Anyaoku GCON, and His Royal Majesty Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe CFR, Obi of Onitsha, who visited in solidarity.

– The Forum reviewed the report of the South East Security and Economic Summit held in Owerri and agreed to implement the recommendations related to security and economic integration, emphasizing actionable plans on these key issues.

– The Forum resolved to visit the President to discuss urgent matters concerning the South East region.

– The Forum also resolved to engage with the Federal Government to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

Additionally, the forum established a burial committee for the late former governor of Abia State and Minister of Science, Innovation, and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu.

The committee will be chaired by Anyim Pius Anyim, with former Minister of Transportation and Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, serving as the Secretary.
