JUST IN: Why We Detained VDM, EFCC Breaks Silence in New Statement

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the detention of Martins Innocent Otse following his refusal to respond to multiple invitations concerning allegations of financial misconduct.

In an official statement released by the Commission, the EFCC disclosed that it had invited Otse after receiving several petitions accusing him of financial crimes. Despite being contacted through known addresses and communication channels, Otse failed to honour the invitations, prompting further legal steps.

The Commission emphasized that the allegations against Otse are serious and could not be ignored. While acknowledging Otse’s public criticisms of the EFCC, the Commission clarified that his arrest was not a reaction to those attacks, and that relevant law enforcement bodies would address such conduct separately.

According to the EFCC, a valid remand order was obtained, granting it the legal authority to hold Otse in custody pending the conclusion of investigations. He has been offered administrative bail and will be released once all bail conditions are met.

The Commission expressed appreciation for the public’s interest and engagement in its operations but cautioned against baseless insinuations regarding its motives. “The EFCC should be allowed to do its job without fear or favour,” the statement read.

The Commission concluded by stating that formal charges would be filed as soon as investigations are completed.
