Veteran singer Kcee has opened up on the long-running speculation of bad blood between himself and highlife star Flavour, admitting for the first time that he once turned down the chance to sign the “Ada Ada” crooner when music executive Soso Soberekon brought him for a deal.
Speaking on Yanga FM on Friday, the “Limpopo” hit-maker recounted the episode that has fuelled years of gossip.
“Person wey Soso bring make I sign? I don dey drive Hummer, Navigator, dey ball before im from East come,” Kcee said in Pidgin. “I was a freaking big boy… I say I no wan sign because I no see the future at that point. Time go tell.”
He stressed that the decision was purely business, not personal.
“It wasn’t malice. I just didn’t see the vision at that time,” he clarified, adding that history has since vindicated Flavour’s talent.
Kcee also addressed a recent social media outburst in which he appeared to slam gatekeepers of Igbo culture after featuring another highlife artiste in his project – a move widely interpreted as a dig at Flavour.
“The truth is that when some people had written you off, hoping that you would be stagnant, and you work hard and get to a level they don’t expect you to reach, that was what happened,” he explained.
The Five Star Music boss insisted the perceived rivalry stems from a “superiority complex” among some colleagues who underrate him because of his humility.
“A lot of my colleagues underrate my talent mostly because I don’t brag. I was already successful, living large, before many of them even moved to Lagos,” Kcee stated.
Despite the candid revelations, the singer played down any ongoing feud, suggesting time has healed old wounds and that both artistes have carved out their own legacies in Nigerian music.
Flavour is yet to respond publicly to Kcee’s comments.
The interview has reignited conversations on social media, with fans praising Kcee’s honesty while others urged the two eastern heavyweights to collaborate and put the rumours to rest permanently.
