An African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain has argued that President Bola Tinubu should be barred from the 2027 presidential race over the absence of his primary and secondary school certificates among documents submitted to the electoral body.
Kenneth Okonkwo said the omission raised questions about compliance with legal requirements for Nigeria’s highest office. His comments followed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) release of presidential candidates’ credentials.
According to the documents, Tinubu submitted a university certificate but not his primary or secondary school certificates.
“Nigeria has its laws that should be respected. No Nigerian is qualified to go to a University without 5 credits at the O’ Level,” Okonkwo posted on X.
“Tinubu purporting to be qualified for President by providing a foreign University certificate, which the University publicly declared did not emanate from it, without providing his secondary school certificate or its equipment disqualifies him from being President,” he added.
Okonkwo also criticised the judiciary, saying “the only reason our democracy is in peril is because of judicial rascality” and accusing some judges of overstepping their powers despite warnings from the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the National Judicial Council.
He insisted that the same educational standards must apply to all aspirants regardless of status.
