Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has confirmed that he will leave the club after 10 years following the expiration of his contract.
The Belgian took to social media to announce his decision, stating that “whether you like it or not, it’s time to say goodbye.”
“These will be my final months as a Manchester City player,” said the midfielder.
“Nothing about this is easy to write but as football players we all know this day eventually comes. That day is here – and you deserve to hear it from me first.”
De Bruyne will leave as a Manchester City and Premier League legend. Since joining the club in 2015, he’s gone on to play for them 413 times and has scored 106 goals.
In that time, he’s won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five League Cups and one Champions League, being a key player for the majority of those triumphs.
He has more assists than anyone in Premier League history other than Ryan Giggs and is one of only four players to be named the division’s Player of the Season twice.
“We cannot thank the city, club, staff, teammates, friends, and family enough for this 10-year ride,” he added.
“Every story comes to an end, but this has definitely been the best chapter.
“Let’s enjoy these last moments together!”
The 33-year-old has been heavily linked with clubs in the Saudi Pro League and MLS, and a move to one of those leagues seems more likely than one to another club in Europe.
