Kuje Court Grants Bail to Sowore, Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer and Others

A Magistrate Court in Kuje has granted bail to Omoyele Sowore, Aloy Ejimakor (lawyer to IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu), Prince Emmanuel Kanu and 11 others arrested during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest.

Presided over by Magistrate Abubakar Umar Sai’Id, the court gave each defendant bail in the sum of ₦500,000, imposing conditions including presentation of a verified National Identification Number (NIN), valid three-year tax clearance, and surrender of their passports.

Sowore was arrested on Thursday by police operatives shortly after leaving the Federal High Court in Abuja. The arrests, captured on video and circulated online, sparked strong condemnation from civil society organisations and human rights groups.

The defendants were charged with unlawful assembly and disturbance of public peace following their participation in protests demanding Kanu’s release.

The bail decision offers a reprieve amid tense legal proceedings and raises questions about how the authorities will respect the bail conditions going forward.
