Land Dispute: Anambra Govt Warns Communities Against Taking Laws Into Their Hands

Anambra Government has warned communities in land dispute against taking laws into their hands, stating that any form of violence that may lead to loss of life will not be tolerated.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim gave the warning at the Government House Awka, during a meeting with stakeholders of Omor and Anaku communities over land dispute.

Dr. Ibezim who is the Chairman of Anambra State Boundary Committee, while speaking, made it clear that the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo is committed towards instituting lasting peace and harmony amongst communities across the state where there is crisis. 

The Deputy Governor urged Omor and Anaku communities to give peace a chance and learn to tolerate each other as brothers that they are.

He assured that the state government through the boundary committee will immediately wade into the matter to avoid escalation, even as he order both communities to seize every activity on the said land.

In their separate speeches, the Member representing Ayamelum at the state House of Assembly, Honourable Bernard Udemezue, the state Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Barrister Tony Ifeanya who hails from Anaku, traditional ruler of Omor, Igwe Chris Chidume thanked the state government for wading into the issue between the villages of both communities, and appealed that the government should expedite action towards resolving it through proper establishment of everlasting monuments at the boundaries of the towns.
