Male Secretaries Mandatory to Avoid ‘Dangers’ of Late-Night Work — Adeboye

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has publicly clarified the personal reasons behind his decision to cease employing female secretaries, stating it is a precaution against “dangers” associated with working alone late at night.

Speaking to his congregation, the renowned cleric explained that the change in staffing policy was instituted after his duties began extending into the early hours of the morning. He stressed that the decision was a personal measure, not an act of gender discrimination.

Pastor Adeboye referenced his past life before his spiritual transformation as part of his justification for the strict boundary.

”I know myself. I know who I was before Jesus saved my soul. I know the possibility of dangers, being left alone. At night, with people of the opposite sex,” he stated.

He further painted a hypothetical scenario to illustrate the vulnerability of working late, suggesting that a well-meaning assistant might invite temptation. “At 2 a.m., we are through now, sir. Is there any way I can help you? You know, a cup of tea to relax. At 2 a.m., Jonah…” he said, referencing the biblical figure.

The General Overseer ensured that he acknowledged the service of his previous female staff, describing his former secretary at Ebute Meta as a “wonderful child of God” and a “wonderful lady.” However, he insisted on the need to protect himself from situations that could compromise his spiritual vows, confirming, “From the moment I got to a stage where at night I still have to work, I cease to have a female secretary.”
