Marvel Studios has cast British actor David Jonsson as the adult son of the late T’Challa in Black Panther 3, set for release on December 15, 2028.
Studio president Kevin Feige and director Ryan Coogler announced the casting during Marvel’s Hall H panel at Comic-Con on Saturday. Coogler will return to direct the film, which will be shot on 70mm.
Jonsson will play Toussaint, also known by his Wakandan name T’Challa, the child of T’Challa and Nakia who was introduced as a young boy in the closing moments of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
“In this next film, he grows up, he comes of age,” Coogler told the audience.
Jonsson, who trained at RADA and recently earned a BAFTA EE Rising Star Award for his role in Alien: Romulus, kept his response brief. “I want to let this screen do the talking,” he said. “But believe me, the honor is entirely mine.”
Letitia Wright will reprise her role as Shuri and Winston Duke returns as M’Baku. Denzel Washington is also attached to an as-yet-unnamed role, which Coogler has previously described while calling the actor “the greatest living actor.”
The announcement continues Marvel’s effort to hand the Black Panther mantle to a new generation following Chadwick Boseman’s death in 2020.
