Mefor Commends NCC For Empowering Telecom Consumers In Anambra

The Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, has commended the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for strengthening consumer awareness and empowering telecommunications users in the state to make informed decisions and exercise their rights.

Dr. Mefor gave the commendation at a sensitisation forum on Data Management, Consumer Awareness and Regulatory Compliance organised by the NCC in Awka.

He noted that the commission had remained consistent in protecting the rights and interests of telecommunications consumers, pointing out that a similar sensitisation exercise had been conducted in the state less than a month ago.

The commissioner said the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo was complementing such initiatives through strategic investments in technology and innovation, particularly the transformation of the old Government House into the Solution Innovation District (SID).

He disclosed that 2,600 youths had already been trained in technology and innovation at the facility, which is over 90 per cent complete and scheduled for commissioning on March 17, 2027.

According to him, global technology companies, including Oracle, Microsoft and Google, are expected to partner with the innovation hub.

Mefor further stressed that the state government was working towards extending internet connectivity to underserved communities, describing last-mile connectivity as critical to transforming Anambra into a smart megacity.

He therefore called for stronger collaboration between the state government and stakeholders in the communications sector to accelerate digital inclusion and expand access to telecommunications services.

The commissioner also disclosed that his ministry, recently refocused as the Ministry of Information and Value Reformation, had commenced a radio campaign on value reorientation.

He said the campaign was flagged off earlier that day at the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) in collaboration with a network of radio stations as part of efforts to promote positive values and social reorientation among residents.
