Mefor Urges PR Practitioners To Support Soludo’s Drive To Rebuild Anambra’s Reputation

Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, has called on public relations practitioners to partner with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration in restoring the state’s image through the government’s moral rebirth and value reformation campaign.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Anambra State Chapter, Mefor said the ministry’s expanded mandate now includes value reformation, making collaboration with public relations professionals vital to achieving the government’s objectives.

He lamented that Anambra’s reputation as the “Light of the Nation” had suffered in recent years due to the erosion of core Igbo values and the criminalisation of Biafran agitation.

“We can agitate legally and politically, but not in ways that harm our economy and portray Ndi Igbo negatively,” he said.
Mefor also linked the state’s reputation to security and social values, warning against the activities of fake pastors and native doctors whom he described as enablers of crime.

“Fake native doctors and some fake pastors are even more dangerous than criminals because religion commands unquestioning loyalty. That is the enormity of the work before us,” he stated.

The commissioner welcomed NIPR’s proposal for stronger collaboration and announced plans to integrate the institute into the Ministry of Information in the state, similar to its role at the federal level.

He also offered office space to the institute, approved public relations training for the state’s information officers by the Anambra NIPR chapter, and proposed the establishment of a joint implementation committee.

“Ordinarily, we should be the ones requesting you to retrain our 185 information officers posted across MDAs, LGAs and specialised institutions. They have a dual mandate to report government activities and serve as public relations officers. They clearly need PR training, and we will address the matter immediately,” Mefor said.

In her remarks, the Anambra State Chairman of NIPR, Dr. Ngozi Ulogu, said the institute was seeking a strategic partnership with the ministry to combat misinformation and effectively communicate the policies and programmes of the Soludo administration.

“Through proper and strategic communication, we must ensure that the people of Anambra understand the value of being an Onye Anambra. Our goal is to counter false stories and rumours with credible information,” she said.

The institute’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ogemdi Ozoemenam, noted that federal information officers are automatically members of the NIPR and appealed for the same arrangement to be extended to Anambra State information officers.

Also speaking, the institute’s Secretary, Dr. Chinedu Ekweonu, observed that Anambra’s once-admired image had been weakened by criminal activities, stressing that Governor Soludo’s value reorientation agenda was essential to restoring the state’s dignity.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the visit featured the formal presentation of an invitation to the commissioner for the NIPR 2026 Chapter Development Training and Workshop, scheduled for September 16, 2026.
