The Miss Universe organization is reeling this week as its two principal co-owners face separate, high-stakes legal proceedings involving allegations of fraud in Thailand and a major trafficking investigation in Mexico, just days after the 2025 pageant concluded.
Thai media reported Wednesday that an arrest warrant has been issued in Bangkok for Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip, the transgender business tycoon whose company, JKN Global, purchased the beauty contest in 2022.
The warrant was reportedly issued by the Bangkok South District Court after Jakrajutatip failed to attend a mandatory hearing concerning a $930,000 (30 million baht) legal dispute with an investor in JKN Global. Her current whereabouts are unknown.
The news compounds existing financial instability for JKN Global, which entered Thai bankruptcy court proceedings in 2024 and reportedly owes approximately 3 billion baht ($92.63 million). The company previously faced sanctions from Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which fined JKN Global for “false or misleading information” in a financial statement.
The SEC sanction stemmed from the company’s failure to “fully disclose to investors” the October 2023 agreement to sell a 50 percent stake in the Miss Universe organization.
CO-OWNER FACES MEXICO PROBE
Meanwhile, Mexican co-owner Raúl Rocha Cantu, who acquired the 50 percent share through his company Legacy Holding Group USA Inc., is facing a separate criminal investigation in Central America.
Mexican prosecutors confirmed Wednesday that Cantu is under investigation for alleged links to “arms, drug and fuel trafficking” operations spanning the border region between Mexico and Guatemala.
While 13 other individuals have been charged in connection with the wide-ranging case, the prosecutor’s office has not yet formally named Cantu in the charges, according to reports from AFP news agency.
The twin crises have cast a long shadow over the newly crowned Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch, following the competition held in Bangkok on November 21. The pageant itself was recently plagued by unverified allegations that the contest results had been “rigged.”
