The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has vowed to fish out the criminals that murdered four vigilante operatives and left two others seriously injured in the State.
Reports say armed men operating in unregistered Lexus 330 SUV and Honda FJ Cruiser SUV, launched an unprovoked attack by 8:45 at Ekeagu Abatete in Idemili North council area, killing three members of the Vigilantes and injuring another unsuspecting member of the public.
Also at Ukpo junction, Dunkunofia council area, another gang while escaping a hot chase by the Police Responding Team, shot and killed another member of the vigilante, injured another and set two vehicles ablaze.
This was corroborated by some videos currently trending on social media, showing the corpse of one of the vigilante operatives lying in the pool of his blood at the Ukpo Roundabout.
Again, one of the videos trending online, also showed the President-General of Abatete Community, Chief Ezebinobi Chimame Ezigbo, as he was being rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention after he was dangerously hit by bullet during the attack.
Another member of the vigilante operative, identified as Ononenyi, was also hit by bullet, and was also rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention, as was similary captured in another video.
A statement released by Police Spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the bodies of the deceased have been recovered and the injured are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
While condoling with the family, friends and Community of the deceased, CP Obono Itam assured that the Police shall leave no stone unturned until those behind the barbaric act are arrested and justice served.
Recall that Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo had recently asked the people of Anambra State to take back their Mondays whose commercial and business activities, have been crippled for years now due to Sit-at-Home order being enforced by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) over the continued detention of it’s leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
This killing has put fear down the spines of Anambra residents who may wish to come out on future Mondays to do their normal daily activities.###
