The Obidient Movement of Labour Party (LP) has completed the inauguration of Polling Unit Commanders across all 5720 polling units in the state during the Anambra Governorship Election.
This came on the hills of accusation leveled against the movement that it did not mobilize party agents in every polling unit in the country during the 2023 General Election. That election was allegedly later manipulated against the party’s Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi who had already won eleven states and FCT.
But briefing newsmen in Awka ahead of the poll, the National Coordinator Obidients Movement, Dr Yunusa Tanko said the move is to protect the mandate of the people and ensure that the voice of Anambra citizens is not stolen or silenced in line with it’s GO MERD Campaign.
He noted that Obidients have put in place robust mechanisms and digital technologies to checkmate any attempt to rig or manipulate the electoral process.
“Let it be stated unequivocally that the Obidient family is fully on ground in every part of Anambra State. From Awka, Awkuzu, to Nnewi, and through every community, ward, and village, our grassroots structures are alive, active, and alert.
“The era when results were written in back rooms is over. This generation of Nigerians, this generation of Obidients, will not allow the old order of electoral malpractice to thrive again.
“We are not just participating; we are prepared, coordinated, and resolute. Our young people, women, professionals, and volunteers are mobilized and trained to monitor every step of the process, from accreditation to vote counting and result transmission.
“We have our own technology that will publish real-time results from every polling unit to mitigate any form of election rigging. Those who want to buy votes will be exposed by our technology and they will face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
Dr Tanko further warned other political parties to know that the Obidient Movement in Anambra is united, disciplined, and focused, stressing “There is no division, no faction, and no confusion. We stand together under one vision, the vision of a New Nigeria that begins from our polling units.”
While calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain impartial and professional, Dr Tanko warned that any compromise of the process will be resisted through lawful and democratic means.
“We also urge all security agencies to ensure that voters are protected and that every citizen can exercise their franchise without fear, intimidation, or inducement.
“To every Anambra citizen, we say this: your vote is your power. Protect it. Use it wisely. Stand firm for integrity, competence, and character.
“The world is watching. Nigeria is watching. The future is watching.
And we, the Obidients are ready,” he concluded. A new Anambra is possible, and together, we will make it happen,” he concluded.
Fielding questions from newsmen, the Deputy Chairman of Labour Party in Anambra State, Mr Obinna Okafor (OCN) said Mr Peter Obi is solidly behind the candidature of Dr George Moghalu, party candidate for November 8 Anambra Guber poll and has followed them to several campaigns ahead of the election.
On the issue of purported disqualification of Dr George Moghalu, OCN said the man that went to court did not participate in the primary, and that no court disqualified Moghalu or entertained an order disqualifying him.
“That’s one of the most comic report we have ever had. The Supreme Court is clear on who goes to court: one you must be a participant in the process. The young man that went to court didn’t participate in any process of the election.
“Again, the law is very clear on 14-day time line of approaching the court in election matters. He approached the court in August whereas the Primary happened in April 5th, when the window had closed.
“Also, the law is very clear that party primary is purely a national leadership issue. The petitioner who allegedly that Anambra LP did not conduct primary, has no basis in law,” he concluded.
For the Spokesperson Obidient Movement South East, Amb. Kingsland Ezeani, Obidient Movement have only one candidate George Moghalu backed by Mr Peter Obi, and did not endorse any other candidate. Thus, we have lined up series of programmes to deliver him in every polling unit in Anambra State come November 8th Guber Poll.###
