The long-running rift within the Okoye family has deepened, with singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, alleging that P-Square’s 2021 reunion was merely for show, while his elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, rejected accusations that he diverted more than $1.2 million in music royalties.
Part One
In the first episode of the series, the 44-year-old singer claimed that the brothers’ widely publicised reunion in 2021 created the wrong impression.
According to him, the reunion was only about restoring their relationship as brothers and not reviving P-Square as a music group. Mr P said that on the day of the reunion, he had no intention of returning to the P-Square business, explaining that he preferred that both brothers continue their solo careers while supporting and promoting each other’s music. Part Two
In the second episode, Mr P alleged that after the reunion, Rudeboy and Jude asked him to sign documents to revive P-Square under a new bank account.
He claimed he declined to preserve the renewed family bond rather than return to a business arrangement he believed could recreate old problems. The singer also alleged that before the reunion, Rudeboy and Jude had fallen out over a ₦90 million loan, with Rudeboy promising to keep him informed about discussions taking place behind his back.
Mr P further alleged that after the reunion, prospective buyers offered billions of naira for the P-Square music catalogue. However, he claimed the transaction collapsed after irregularities were allegedly discovered in the backend records submitted during due diligence. Jude Okoye Rejects Mr P’s $1.2m Royalty Diversion Claims —
Former P-Square manager Jude Okoye has denied allegations by his brother Peter Okoye, known as Mr P, that he diverted more than $1.2 million in music royalties.
In an Instagram video posted Sunday, Jude said the claims had already been examined by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and remained before the courts. He accused Mr P of trying to influence public opinion while avoiding hearings.
“You are trying to bait me. You know the court is not going to your favour,” Jude said. “Why are you dodging to make appearance in court? For three good sittings now, you dey dodge court.”
Responding to a separate claim that he and Paul Okoye, known as Rudeboy, diverted about $25,000 in royalties, Jude said the 2016 payment followed Mr P’s own instructions. Records from digital distributor IROKO showed Mr P’s share went directly to his personal account, while the remainder was paid into the Northside Entertainment account.
“Peter’s money was sent to him directly… Peter knows this. This has been trashed by the EFCC. We are still in court. How do you explain this?” he asked.
Jude also rejected assertions that Mr P had been removed as a signatory to P-Square bank accounts, displaying what he described as the official bank mandate. He said Mr P remained a signatory to all the group’s accounts and that the documents had already been presented in court.
He further disputed claims of delays in handing over music catalogue records, insisting the request was met within six days, and rejected assertions that Mr P only recently began receiving royalty payments in dollars, saying records showed such payments since 2012.
Jude said his own accounts had been frozen for more than two years, preventing him from travelling, and that he would not discuss matters still before the court beyond countering what he called false narratives on social media.
Jude pleaded not guilty to the charges and was later granted bail. During the trial, Mr P testified for the prosecution, while Rudeboy publicly defended their elder brother, exposing further divisions within the family.
Mr P said the series is far from over, promising to continue sharing what he described as the true story behind the collapse of P-Square and the events that strained their family relationship.
Singer Cynthia Morgan accuses Jude Okoye of ‘wickedness’ in Okoye brothers feud
Singer Cynthia Morgan, former signee under Jude Okoye’s Northside Inc. has entered the public dispute between her ex-boss and Mr P, saying she witnessed the older brother’s “wickedness.”
Morgan, also called Madrina, posted a series of comments on social media in which she accused Jude Okoye of manipulating narratives.
“If there is one thing I know about Jude, I know for a fact that he can make the truth disappear either in front or behind the cameras,” she wrote. “I am a living witness of his wickedness. But the difference this time is he came with chats and emails, so our only hope to getting the truth this time is the judiciary. So help them God.”
She further criticised Jude for remarks about his brother. “You see how he quickly said Peter is crashing out because he is going down. That is how toxic and divisive he is,” Morgan said. “While in real sense, even if I don’t listen to secular music anymore, I saw Peter trending with his new song recently. Jude is not a good human being.”
EFCC case
The renewed family feud comes against the backdrop of an ongoing criminal case involving Jude Okoye. Earlier this year, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned the former P-Square manager before the Federal High Court in Lagos on allegations involving approximately ₦1.38 billion, one million US dollars and £34,537.59 in alleged money laundering.
