Elon Musk on Wednesday announced a slew of new features coming to the Twitter app.
The latest version of the Social media giant’s app will come with support for DM replies, meaning users will have the ability to reply to any message they receive and not just the most recent one. Similar to Instagram or WhatsApp users will be able to react to DM’s on Twitter with a wide range of emojis.
Notably, Twitter is also coming out with encrypted DM 1.0, which should make DMs between users more secure. Musk says that the ‘acid test’ of this feature will be when, even with a gun to his head, he would not be able to see other users’ DMs.
Another important feature that will be rolled out soon to the Twitter app is support for voice and video chat on Twitter. Musk says this feature will allow users to talk to people anywhere in the world without giving them their number.
In a tweet, Musk shared the latest features coming to Twitter, he wrote, “With latest version of app, you can DM reply to any message in the thread (not just most recent) and use any emoji reaction. Release of encrypted DMs V1.0 should happen tomorrow. This will grow in sophistication rapidly. The acid test is that I could not see your DMs even if there was a gun to my head. Coming soon will be voice and video chat from your handle to anyone on this platform, so you can talk to people anywhere in the world without giving them your phone number.”

Twitter Support also shared an update about the new features in Direct Messages. Talking about the two new features, Twitter Support wrote, “📢 Introducing DM Replies! You can now reply to any message you receive in DMs, making conversations smoother and more intuitive.
We’ve also added a new Emoji Picker to DMs, allowing you to react to messages with a wider range of emojis than ever before.”
