Nigeria’s anti-trafficking agency has initiated a full investigation into allegations of child molestation at a Lagos daycare once linked to singer Simisola Kosoko, known as Simi, following the resurfacing of her old social media posts deemed inappropriate by critics.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) announced the move Friday, responding to public outcry over the decade-old tweets made while Simi assisted at her mother’s facility.
Director-General Binta Adamu Bello directed operatives to launch the inquiry, with the agency urging victims or witnesses to come forward. “While appreciating the genuine concern of Nigerians on the matter, the Agency wishes to inform the general public that all its communication platforms are active and available to take complaints from anyone who may have been abused or violated on the said Day-care,” a NAPTIP statement read.
The posts, from 2012-2013, have been described as “disturbing” by many online, prompting accusations of misconduct. Simi has defended them, insisting they were taken out of context and not rooted in “perversion.”
NAPTIP emphasized that the probe stems from credible reports, encouraging submissions via its channels for those with direct knowledge or experiences.
Agency officials offered no timeline for the investigation’s completion.
