Governor Chukwuma Soludo has received the Torch of Unity of the National Sports Festival scheduled to hold in Ogun State from May 16th, 2025, in Government House Awka.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that Soludo represented by his Chief of Protocol, Chief Chinedu Nwoye said that Anambra contingents are domestically prepared to clinch major trophies in upcoming Gateway Games in Ogun state.
Addressing the national delegation alongside members of the state sports Commission as well as enthusiastic sports men and women who gathered to witness the ceremony, the Governor said that the origin of the National Sports Festival is a deliberate policy by the Federal Government to unite the various sections of Nigeria immediately after the Nigerian civil war in 1970, saying that sports has the potential of uniting and making the society better.
Soludo maintained that since the inception of his administration, state citizen’s lifestyle are better repositioned through the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo’s activities, and urged Anambra athletes to adequately prepare themselves for the festival.
In his speech, the Team Leader Unity Cup, National Sports Commission, Ikana Mbora, said the torch was in the state to inform the state government that the festival is about to kick off, saying that the festival will hold from May 16 to 30 in Abeokuta, capital of Ogun, South West geo-political zone.

in their remarks said the festival had over the years proven to be a unifying factor among the citizens of Nigeria and expressed optimism that the state’s athletes will ensure their standing on the Festival’s final medals table was better than what they had at the event’s last edition.
The defending Champion in Scrabble in the last Sports festival in Delta state Mr. Ajuluchukwu Okagbue assured his readiness to retain the position as well as shining the light of the state globally and encouraged other athletics to prepare themselves before waiting on the state for sponsorship.
