NCPC Honours Mayor Of Ogbaru ‘Akwuobi’ With Leadership And Service Award

The National Community Policing Campaign (NCPC) has honoured the local government Chairman of Ogbaru, Sir Kenneth Akwuobi, for his exemplary leadership and service.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports the award was presented by the Executive Director of the NCPC, Dr. K. O. Ubah, during a brief ceremony held at the mayor’s office in Nkutaku, East of Niger, Ogbaru Local Government Area.

While presenting the award, Dr. Ubah recalled the long-standing relationship between the NCPC and Sir Akwuobi, noting that the mayor was among those who supported and promoted the organisation in its early days.

“Everything has its season and time. You stood by us and spoke well of our organisation when we were still growing. Today, it is your turn to be honoured. Your achievements before and after becoming mayor speak volumes, and you truly deserve this recognition,” Dr. Ubah said.

Speaking at the event, the Anambra State Chairman of the NCPC, Elder Christopher Madueke, described the organisation as the operational arm of the Community Crime Sensitisation Centre.

Madueke explained that the NCPC works in collaboration with the National Anti-Corruption Coalition (NACC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to promote security and accountability at the grassroots.

Elder Madueke said the award was bestowed on Sir Akwuobi in recognition of his outstanding performance in office, describing him as one of the most effective local government Chairmen among the 21 councils in Anambra State.

The Chairman added that the mayor had consistently demonstrated strong leadership qualities even before assuming office, noting that the organisation had closely monitored his contributions over the years.

According to him, the award was recommended and approved by the NCPC National Headquarters in Abuja and was originally scheduled for presentation in December 2025 but was postponed due to the mayor’s official trip outside the country.

Responding, Sir Akwuobi expressed deep gratitude to the NCPC for the honour, describing it as a strong motivation to intensify his efforts toward the development of Ogbaru Local Government Area.

“On behalf of my family, particularly my wife, Hon. Lady Kenneth Oluchi Akwuobi, and my entire team, I sincerely appreciate this recognition. It inspires me to do even more for my people. To whom much is given, much is expected,” Akwuobi said.

The Mayor also commended the NCPC for recognising individuals while they are still alive, rather than posthumously, describing the gesture as thoughtful and encouraging.

Members of the NCPC present at the ceremony included the State Operations, Victor Okpara, P.O. Onyebuchi, Norbert Iwuchukwu, and other officials of the organisation.
