We all woke up yesterday to the sad news of the glorious departure of Mama Onwujekwe who spent the tail part of her long life putting smiles on the faces of so many of us. While we mourn the demise of Mama let’s not bypass the important lesson she has left with us: it is never too late to begin in life.
In the life of late comedienne, Mama Rosaline Onwujekwe, popularly known as Madam Social, the saying: “A fool at forty is a fool forever” has been proven false. Madam Social came to limelight about 2 years ago. Along with several others, I was thrilled that such an amazing comedienne could emerge in our society at an old age and be relevant amidst the numerous comedians and comediennes competing for attention in our airspace.
One mentality of winners in life is that positive idea that “it is never too late to begin.” Yes, you can be that which you desire to be. Your light can shine. Morning does not come to us at the same time. Like today, I was already awake at 4:30 am. When I awoke, my morning began. There are people who would wake at 7: 30 am or even 8: 00 am, and their morning would begin. That is life for you. We are not born the same time and expect in very rare cases are not going to leave the earth the same time. Each of us will leave when his or her own time comes. The most important thing is to realize it is morning and to wake up to something meaningful.
Madam Social, made many of her fans to laugh. Her funny words were wisdom filled. In the brevity of her comedies, the importance of precision is echoed. Quality does not necessarily require quantity. The combing of her hairless head illustrates to me, the confidence that one requires to go through life happily. Enjoying her chicken and smiling, she teaches me that life should be enjoyed even at old age.
Thank you “Madam Social” for giving us your best in the last phase of your existence. Life on earth is transitory. You have lived your life and made positive impact in the lives of many. Comedy eases tension and anxiety. It also serves a curative purpose to a depressed soul. Thank you for being a comedienne. Most importantly, you didn’t certainly spring to limelight on your own. Some persons discovered you. Special thanks to all those who helped to bring you and your talents to public view.
