NGO Donates Chairs To Anambra Schools, Commends Soludo’s Giant Strides

A group known as Awka Union Baltimore/Washington, USA have donated school chairs worths of million of naira to eight public schools in Awka, the state capital city. 

Angel Network News gathered that before now, the union had made other efforts towards the development of their hometown including building a maternity ward and sinking a borehole at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka. 

Receiving the donation, the Executive Chairman, Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Dr Vera Nwadinobi said the union has heeded the call to help government improve the quality of education delivered to Anambra children especially those in public schools. 

Dr Nwadinobi who was represented by Member two of the board, Dr Kay Chukwura noted that the present administration in the state has invested heavily to improve the quality of education in the state through such means such as the free education policy in public schools and recruitment of quality teachers. 

The President of the association, Chief Osita Okafor in his remark disclosed that they embarked on the mission to fulfill their objective of helping the needy and poor in the society to have access basic social amenities. 

According to Okafor, the gesture is aimed at improving teaching and learning in the metropolis and as a way for the union to contribute their quota to giving the children the best for them attain great height in the future.

Chief Okafor explained that they chose the schools that benefited from the project through a raffle draw of villages in the community in order to spread the benefits across the community 

The Chairman, Umudioka Village Awka, Mr Christopher Uzor extolled the group for remembering home and most importantly for investing in education while commending the teachers of the benefiting schools for the students impressive conduct during the project. 

On her part, the Officer In-charge, Awka South Local Government Area Education Authority, Mrs Florence Chinweze extolled the kindness, care and benevolence of Ndi Awka Baltimore and called on other clubs to emulate them.

The School Headmistress, Mrs Abigail Omenkwu also expressed their immense gratitude to the union and outlined some other items needed in the school which included nursery school chairs, set of bands and other learning equipment.

Speaking on behalf of the pupils, Miss Chisom Ifediora thanked the union for remembering them and for providing them a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning.
