Host vs Hope: Super Eagles Take On Morocco in Explosive AFCON Semi-Final

Super Eagles are set to clash with tournament hosts Morocco in a pivotal Africa Cup of Nations semi-final, pitting the unbeaten West African powerhouse against the resilient Atlas Lions in a bid for a spot in the final of the 2025 edition.

The match kicks off at 9:00 pm local time (2000 GMT) on Tuesday, January 14, 2026, at Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, where Nigeria aims for a record ninth final appearance while Morocco seeks only their second since 2004.

Nigeria, who have won all five games so far, boast the highest goal tally with 14 strikes, including four from Victor Osimhen, who has also provided five assists for a direct involvement in 10 goals.

Morocco, with four wins and a draw, have kept four clean sheets, the most in a single edition, and lead in set-piece goals with five, spearheaded by Brahim Díaz’s tally of five strikes.

Historically, Morocco holds a slight edge in all competitions with six wins to Nigeria’s three in 11 meetings, though in AFCON specifically, the North Africans have three victories to Nigeria’s two across five encounters.

This marks Nigeria’s 16th semi-final, a tournament record, and their second straight meeting with a host nation after facing Ivory Coast in the 2023 group and final stages.

Morocco’s coach Walid Regragui is guiding his side to their second major semi-final, with a victory potentially marking their third senior CAF final in under a year.

The winners will advance to the January 18 final, facing either Egypt or Senegal, as both sides chase glory on Moroccan soil.
