Nigeria fight back to draw 3-3 with Russia in international friendly

Super Eagles came from behind twice to secure a 3-3 draw against Russia in an international friendly at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium on Tuesday.

Kelechi Iheanacho gave Nigeria an early lead in the 10th minute. Russia equalised through Lechii Sadulaev in the 30th minute and took the lead just before half-time when Matvey Kislyak scored in the 45+2nd minute.

Alexey Miranchuk extended Russia’s advantage to 3-1 in the 54th minute. Nigeria reduced the deficit in the 78th minute through Osayande Peter Edokpolor before Akor Adams equalised deep into stoppage time in the 90+4th minute.

The result marked the second meeting between the sides in 16 months. Their previous encounter in Moscow in June 2025 also ended 1-1.

Russia dominated possession with 63 percent and recorded more shots, while Nigeria showed resilience after a recent 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.

The friendly provided both teams with competitive minutes as Russia continues to arrange exhibition matches after being barred from official FIFA and UEFA competitions since 2022.
