Alhaji Sule Lamido, the former governor of Jigawa state has said that Nigeria cannot break up because the elites are united in preserving their advantages over the masses irrespective of any differences.
He made this obvious but shocking revelation while addressing youths who trooped-in in numbers on the occasion of his 73rd birthday.
The former governor asked the youths present at the occasion a rather thought provoking question, “who will break it, is it the ordinary person in Jigawa or the ordinary person in Sokoto or the ordinary person in Bayelsa….is it the igbo vulcanizer, he continued or the Yoruba woman selling kerosene by the road side or the okada man in delta?
“They don’t have the capacity to unite because they are burdened by poverty. We have taken their dignity, their self-worth so that they cannot even organize for the break-up of the country”.
One begins to wonder what extent the Nigerian situation can be stretched before these so-called unconcerned political leaders starts taking cognizance of their social responsibilities and the feelings of the people. To even think that all these where coming from a man who the youth were supposedly projecting for the next presidential election come 2023 is as disheartening as it is disappointing.
Speaking further, he said, “up there we (the elites) unite. We will never allow Nigeria to break because once it breaks, we will lose. But the common man loses nothing. What is he losing? He is already in hell, he cannot lose anything more than his hell”.
His submissions is an unfortunate statement of fact about how the government systematically impoverish the masses.
