Comrade Humphrey Nwafor has been elected the new Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC), in Anambra State.
The new NLC Chairman took over from Comrade Chinwe Orizu whose tenure came to an end months ago.
ANN reports that Nwafor is the current State Chairman of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) Anambra State branch.
The election which took place at Anambra NUT house Awka, was supervised by the National President NLC, Joe Ajaero among other top union leaders in the state.
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Nwafor said he is trusting in God to pilot the affairs of the union in Anambra State to a greater height and assured that the congress shall continue in its tradition of ensuring that workers are protected from all anti-people policies.
He solicited the support of members at all levels to restore the belief and confidence of the working people in the NLC as the bastion of hope for the masses and the strong voice for the voiceless.
He promised that his leadership would speak for the thousands of workers in the state and also seek a platform to uplift the a cathedral for the union as a befitting rally point for workers in the state.
Nwofor and other members of the National Administrative Council (NAC) will pilot the affairs of the congress for the next four years.
Ajaero, represented by the Assistant General Secretary of NLC National, Comrade Onyeka Chris, while reading out oath to the new executive, asked them to prioritize the welfare of members by putting into consideration the objective reality of the socio-economic situation in the country and to expand its reach to capture more workers.
He challenged them to vigorously maintaining peace and harmony in the workplace and most importantly, promote, project and protect the rights of the state workers against any form of oppression and suppression.
