Nigeria’s Super Eagles powered into the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a dominant 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the Round of 16 on Monday night, continuing their impressive run in the tournament.
The Group C winners put on a clinical performance at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, with goals from Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen (2) and Akor Adams sealing a comprehensive win and booking Nigeria’s place in the last eight.
Lookman opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a composed finish after a slick build-up, before Osimhen doubled the lead five minutes later, rising to head home from close range. The Galatasaray striker then added a third early in the second half to effectively put the tie beyond Mozambique’s reach. Adams wrapped up the scoring in the 75th minute, converting from a swift counter-attack.
Mozambique, making their first ever appearance in the AFCON knockout rounds, struggled to contain Nigeria’s pace and fluid attacking play. Despite showing resilience at times, the underdogs could not create clear chances and ultimately bowed out of the tournament.
Nigeria now await the winner of the Round of 16 tie between DR Congo and Algeria, with ambitions high among supporters for a deep run and a fourth continental title.
