Nigerians can now check names on INEC preliminary voters’ register online

The Independent National Electoral Commission has made the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general election available online, allowing Nigerians to verify their details ahead of the final register’s publication.

The commission uploaded the register following concerns that it had been missing from its website during the inspection period.

Registered voters can now view the names and photographs of people listed in their polling units and confirm their own information through INEC’s dedicated portal.

To access the register, users should visit https://display.inecnigeria.org/, sign in to an account, then select their state, local government area, ward and polling unit. Alternatively, they can enter a polling unit code to locate the relevant list.

The portal displays names and photographs of registered voters in the chosen unit. Users can jump to surnames beginning with a specific letter for easier navigation and check that their own details are accurate. They may also inspect entries for other voters in the same unit.

INEC has stressed that the platform is for viewing the preliminary register only. It cannot be used to register as a voter, transfer registration to another polling unit or replace a Permanent Voter Card. The site also does not allow nationwide searches for individual names; users must select a specific polling unit.

The commission monitors activity on the platform and limits the amount of information each account can view to prevent misuse. Users who reach the limit may be asked to try again later.

Those seeking to register or access other voter services are directed to INEC’s Continuous Voter Registration portal.

INEC is currently processing claims and objections arising from the inspection exercise. The final register is scheduled for certification and publication on December 15, 2026.

Voters who find errors or discrepancies should follow INEC’s official guidance on submitting claims or objections, as the online viewing portal itself does not handle corrections.
