Nimo indigenes hail Commissioner Nwabunwanne, set 4th Jan, 2024 for PG election

Barely twenty four hours after the aborted President General election in Nimo, stakeholders from the four quarters have converged at the Government House, Awka were they were summoned by the Commissioner for Local government, Chieftaincy affairs, Hon Tony Collins Nwabunwanne.

The deliberation which ended in a peaceful resolution that saw an acceptable outcome as each of the representatives hailed Hon Nwabunwanne for mediating into the aborted PG election and setting 4th of January as the date for the election.

ANN reports that Nimo town union election which was earlier scheduled to take place on 27th December was aborted.

Among other resolutions reached were; (ii) that all the former officers of the past executives except the National Secretary are disqualified from contesting any post in the present election, (iii) that Etiti-Nimo resolved to take Second National Vice President as part of concession for peaceful resolution while Ifite Ani takes third National Vice President and the first Vice National President will go to Ifite-Enu (iv) that sales of form to commence till 12noon on 2nd January 2024, (v) that the former officer disqualified shall be refunded the cost of their forms by NTDU, (vi) that registers shall be reopened for new registration of numbers, (vii) that financial members shall vote irrespective of their financial status while New registrants shall be identified by their village councillors, (viii) that registration and clearance shall end on 2nd January, 2024, (ix) that publication of accredited voters shall be done 48hours before election, and finally (x) that the two electoral committe members from Ifite – Enu shall be adopted immediately.

Speaking to ANN Correspondent, Former President General, Nimo Development Union, United States Branch, Chief Hyacinth Akunne from Umudim, Egbengwu Nimo said he is fulfilled to be part of the election process but unfortunately it couldn’t hold on the stipulated date which is 27th of December 2023.

Chief Akunne noted that Nimo as a community has a fair share when it comes to communities in Anambra known for greatness with people in diverse expertise and as such, there is need that we create the right leadership in which everyone will be happy with the process. “I am happy that the Hon Commissioner have waded into the matter and resolved it amicably.

Advising the people of Nimo, Chief Akunne (Udokanma Nimo) called on all inclusiveness in the running of the affairs of Nimo Development Union. “We all have to work together as brothers and sisters, Channel our interest, efforts, resources towards our own so we can compete in the global Village. We must promote our culture, tradition and heritage, he added.

Sir Ogbuefi Vincent Okoye (Ozo Omekaobue) from Obiuno Nimo, while commending the Hon Commissioner, Tony Collins Nwabunwanne for his mediation said “he took time to explain our own Constitution, the discrepancies were dealt with and we resolved all issues by compromise and sacrifices. I am happy, no quarter is separate, we are one and love should surpass. I advice my Nimo people to always dialogue issues internally and not taking out issues for external bodies to intervene and be our brothers keeper”.

For Ozo Eziokwu Nimo, “today is a special day and we appreciate the Commissioner for assisting us resolve our differences. I advice Nimo people to remain calm and breed peace, unity and progress”.

Advising Nimo ide Agbalanze Onyeka Okeke from Egbengwu Nimo, called on all sons and daughters to abide by the resolution. Stealth your swords because since we all have agreed we have agreed to move forward for progress.

Former SA to Govneor Obiano on community Liasion Hon Omile Chukwukwuma Valentine from Egbengwu Nimo, maintained that the resolution is commendable. “You see that each quarters wants peace and I want to urge them to maintain good leadership standards. I sincerely thank the Hon Commissioner for giving us the time”.

Prince Anthony Okpala (Onosolueze Ayamelum,) from Umueze quarters Nimo said he is overjoyed because of the understanding and peace which takes along time to manifest. Prosperity, empowerment and progress all these come with peace. That is why some of us left our businesses to and ensure that peace reigns in Nimo.

Former First National Vice President of NTDU Hon Anthony Ifeanyichukwu Anidobe, said he is most happy about the resolutions at the Government House, not minding am among the contestants that was dissolved, I accept it wholeheartedly. This will bring peace in Nimo, so I want to plead with Nimo indigenes so far your registered, I call you all to come out enmass and choose the right candidate that will pilot the affairs of the community. We thank Hon Commissioner for his efforts, and pray for his blessings, we are doing this to strengthen the kingship, the progress and love among Nimo people. We can only achieve this if we troop out enmass and vote a valuable, credible person that will excute the affairs of the Nimo Community.

Meanwhile those who endorsed the resolution were, Patrick Egbekpalu-National Secretary, Ifeanyi Ike-Chairman Etiti Nimo Progressive Union, Barrister John Iguh- Chairman Ifite-Ani Progressive Union, Ekene Obeleagu-Chairman Egbengwu Brotherhood Union, Capt (Rtd) Maximus Okochi-Chairman Ifite Enu Welfare Association, Chief H N Aniekwe, Chairman Peace Committee, Ichie Barr Tony Nnamdi Ezenagu-Chairman Electoral Committee, and Okwaji Chidike Vincent-Youth Leader.
