The Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba has visited the family of Mr. Sunday Nwaka, who allegedly set his wife ablaze with fuel and fire.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the Mayor was accompanied by the Commissioner of Women Affairs, Hon. Mrs. Ify Obinabo, and the Commissioner for Health, Hon. Dr. Afam Obidike amongst others.
The delegation was sent by the wife of the governor, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo to gather first-hand information and assess the situation.
They met with the Abagana divisional station head, Mr. Peter Ekpeta, to discuss the incident.
The Mayor while speaking, condemned the act of domestic violence vigorously; urging couples to live in love and harmony. He appealed to them for calm, as the law will take its course.
Hon. Ononiba likewise thanked the Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo for their response to the unfortunate incident. He promised to cover some of the costs associated with the deceased’s treatment.
ANN gathered that the victim who hailed from Orafite and was married in Abagana, succumbed to her injuries and passed away on Wednesday morning. Her body has been deposited at Beke Memorial Hospital, Nimo.
Reacting, Spokesperson of Anambra State Police Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the victims husband has been arrested and that investigation into the matter has commenced.
