Nkpor Community has emerged champions of the Hon. Uchenna Annie Okonkwo (U.A.O) Idemili Football League, after defeating Akwu-Ukwu in a penalty shootout.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that it was a very competitive match filled with suspense, display of passion, talent, and resilience from both teams.
Akwu-Ukwu took the lead in the first half with one goal. In the second half, Nkpor equalized, and the match proceeded to penalties, where Nkpor won 4-3 against Akwu-Ukwu.
Eziowelle, a town in Idemili North, came third, while Nnokwa took the fourth position.
The first, second, third, and fourth teams received medals and cash prizes of three million naira, two million naira, one million naira, and two hundred and fifty thousand naira respectively. Individual cash prizes were also awarded to players who distinguished themselves in the league.
The Chairman, House Committee on Sports, ably represented by Sir Aderibigbe Rasak; the Clerk, House Committee on Sports, Lady Ore Dorcas; representatives of the Nigerian Institute of Sports, including the Zonal Director of the Institute; and Mr. Abalaka John, a scout from the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), were all present to grace this great show of unity among the communities in Idemili North and South.
