Rangers International came from behind to defeat Kano pillars 4:1 at their adopted home ground in Awka, Anambra state capital.
ANN reports that despite missing the services of midfielders Naziru Auwalu, Kalu Nweke and Chinemerem Ugwueze, Rangers dominated the game especially at the second half.
The Coach Fidelis Ilochukwu tutored side consided first at the 11th minute through a goal from Yakubu and equalizes through penalty taken by Godwin Obaje at the 24th minutes.Â
The flying Antelopes scored three goals at the second half at the 54, 57 and 63 minutes through Chukwudi and Nworgu.
Kano Pillars Coach Abdul Maikaba in an interview with newsmen after the game said his boys started on a very beautiful note but fatigue played a major role to their defeat.
Maikaba who coached Rangers last season maintained that Rangers were not the better side and that fatigue was the reason why they lost.Â
” All the northern teams are covering long distance to play games and that is the main reason why we are suffering.Â
” Am happy for Rangers to have gotten this type of result against Kano Pillars, they were not the better side. Fatigue affected my boys. We arrived soo late, it was a difficult journey.Â
“We will continue the journey, its a Marathon. We will go and recover at home. My dream is to finish in the top four, thats the target.Â
“The team is made up of young players who are making their debut in the league and i believe that the team will grow. The fans should expect victory in our next game against Bayelsa united.Â
Chief Coach Ali Suleman in an interview said Pillars played better in the first half while Rangers took over in the second half.Â
” After the first half, we went into the dressing room and told the boys what they need to do. We are going to handle each game at a time and our next game which is against Lobi Stars, we will go back and see where we didn’t get it right.
