The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Anambra State Command, has assured the management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, COOU, Teaching Hospital, Amaku-Awka, of its commitment to strengthening security within the premises.

Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC State Commandant, stated this when he received Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, the Chief Medical Director, CMD, of COOU,
Teaching Hospital, Amaku-Awka, and her management team on a courtesy visit, at the State Command Headquarters, Awka.
Speaking during the visit, Commandant Maku congratulated the CMD on her well-deserved appointment, noting that her wealth of experience as a distinguished consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist would reposition the hospital to be one of the best in the country.
He reaffirmed that the protection of critical national, state, and local government assets, including healthcare institutions, remains a core mandate of the Corps.
The NSCDC State Commandant pledged to deploy proactive security measures, enhance intelligence sharing, and collaborate closely with the hospital to safeguard patients, staff, and facilities.
He assured the hospital management of the NSCDC’s readiness to partner with them, stating that the protection of healthcare facilities is a priority under the Corps’ statutory mandate. He also pledged to assess the hospital’s security needs and deploy appropriate measures to ensure a safe environment for healthcare operations.
In her speech, the CMD, Dr. Umeakuewulu,
stated that the purpose of her visit was to formally introduce the hospital’s new management to the Command and to seek stronger collaboration in addressing the hospital’s security needs.
Umeakuewulu noted that the safety of patients, staff, medical equipment, and hospital infrastructure is critical to the effective delivery of healthcare services.
The CMD commended the NSCDC for its consistent role in safeguarding lives, property, and critical national assets across the state, and expressed confidence that the partnership would enhance the hospital’s security architecture.
