The leadership of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have resolved to enhance their collaborative efforts in tackling fraud and other forms of economic and financial crimes in Anambra State.
This resolution was made when Mr. Ofen-Imu Atiba Sunday, the Zonal Director of the newly created EFCC Zonal Directorate, Awka, paid a courtesy visit to Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC Anambra State Commandant, at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters, Awka on Monday February 16, 2026.
Speaking during the visit, the EFCC Zonal Commander, informed the State Commandant that he recently assumed office and was on familiarization visit aimed at strengthening and deepening existing relationships between the two agencies.
“EFCC places high value on strategic partnership with sister security agencies, such as the NSCDC, in intelligence sharing and joint security operations, and that is why I am here.
The EFCC Zonal Director hinted that the setting up the new EFCC Zonal Directorate, Awka, would enhance the Commission’s presence in Anambra and Imo States, boost responsiveness, and step up the battle against corruption, money laundering, fraud, cyber scams, and other economic and financial crimes.
He stressed that financial crimes are closely tied to economic sabotage, and effective EFCC-NSCDC teamwork is key to breaking up organized crime networks. He stated that sustained collaboration between both agencies was critical to dismantling criminal networks militating against the growth of the nation’s economy.
Responding, Commandant Maku Olatunde commended the EFCC for its continuous efforts to rid the country of economic and financial crimes. He reaffirmed the commitment of the NSCDC to supporting the EFCC’s mandate.
“The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps remains committed to working closely with the EFCC to curb illegal dealings on petroleum products, revenue leakages in the mining industry, and other forms of economic sabotage. Our collaboration is essential to achieving a safer and more prosperous Nigeria,” he concluded.
The NSCDC State head said the Commandant General of NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has no tolerance for corruption, fraud, or financial misconduct. This stance, according to him, has led to successful investigations and prosecutions of cases involving job racketeering, fraud, and other financial crimes.
He noted that the Corps’ Anti-Fraud Unit was set up to prevent financial irregularities, clean up fraud-related activities, and help the public resolve fraud cases.
