U.S. tech firm Nvidia announced plans on Tuesday to invest $1 billion into Finland-based Nokia, forming a strategic partnership aimed at advancing artificial intelligence and networking technologies.
The deal, which encompasses research, development, and infrastructure collaboration, was described as a “long-term strategic investment” by both companies.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said in a joint press release: “This investment deepens our commitment to global innovation, enabling next-generation AI and connectivity across Europe and beyond.”
Nokia CEO Pekka Lundmark added: “The collaboration empowers us to bring together Nokia’s network technology and Nvidia’s AI leadership to accelerate digital transformation.”
The move comes as governments and enterprises worldwide ramp up investment in AI infrastructure, and signals Nvidia’s push into telecommunications hardware and European markets.
Under the agreement, Nvidia and Nokia will co-develop silicon, software, and systems for AI, telecoms, and edge computing, with focus on 5G and beyond.
