Senator Ned Nwoko has sparked public debate after declaring he “feels sorry for those who have one wife,” asserting that polygamy provides greater stability in marriage.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Nwoko said: “I feel sorry for those who have one wife. Just imagine standing on one leg — it’s difficult. But with two, three, or four, you’re more balanced. That’s the example I give.”
Responding to critiques that Christianity forbids multiple wives, he retorted: “The Old Testament does. I am a man of faith. But that’s not what we are here for.”
Nwoko, who is married to four wives, added that he bears no regrets about his marital choices: “No, I don’t have any regret. I would do the same thing again. You should marry who you want to marry.”
He also dismissed recent allegations of domestic violence involving his wife Regina Daniels, calling them “false and unfounded,” and insisted he is not violent, stating: “I respect my wives and love them and my kids.”
His remarks arrive amid ongoing public scrutiny of his household dynamics, particularly following recent tension after Daniels unveiled a new mansion with a post reading, “In my house, I am a queen.”
The senator’s comments have reignited discussions over monogamy versus polygamy, religious doctrine, and marital rights in Nigeria.
