Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has strongly condemned the latest deadly attack in Jos North, Plateau State, warning that the country is gradually becoming desensitised to the recurring loss of innocent lives.
In a statement posted on his verified X account after receiving news of the incident upon his return from a visit to Kano, Obi described the violence as painful and unacceptable.
“These continuous devastating headlines remind us of the painful reality that we are gradually normalising the loss of our people,” he said.
He criticised the absence of a sustained government strategy to end such attacks. “It is unacceptable that such attacks happen with such frequency without a decisive and sustained strategy to end them. No nation or leader should normalise tragedy,” Obi added.
The Labour Party chieftain stressed that the safety of Nigerian lives must be non-negotiable. “We cannot continue mourning what should have been prevented. Enough is enough,” he declared.
Obi extended condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for a country where such loss of life is no longer a recurring tragedy.
The attack in Angwan Rukuba has once again highlighted the persistent insecurity plaguing parts of Plateau State.
